The mission of the Central Illinois District (CID) Church Extension Fund (CEF) is to make funds and services available to congregations within the CID for building efforts. CEF accomplishes its purpose primarily by making loans to congregations for acquiring land, building/enhancing worship and educational facilities, and/or purchasing parsonages/teacherages for its rosterred workers.  These loans are made at rates often below those of commercial lending institutions.  The savings in interest, fees, and prepayment penalties helps congregations pay off their loan(s) more quickly than would be possible with a typical lending institution.

Mortgage Interest Rebate

Also at the December meeting, the Board declared a mortgage interest rebate for 2014 totaling $300,000.00.  Each organization that paid interest on a loan from CEF will receive a rebate based on the percentage of interest they paid in relation to other congregations and agencies then that percentage applied to the total rebate amount.  In addition, the organization's loan must be paid current to December 31, 2014 no later than January 31, 2015.  This is the tenth consecutive year that CEF has returned a portion of the interest income to their customers.

Additional Grants

Additional grants made at the December CEF meeting were as follows:

  a. $40,000.00 to CID for church worker scholarships for school year 2015-16.
  b. $15,000.00 to CID for architectural plans and
drawings for Cristo Rey in the Quad Cities.
  c. $5,000.00 to CID for concrete work at the Deaf Ministry in Jacksonville.
