Contributions to CID

CID Expenditures and Support

Over the last 5 years, contributions to CID from its member congregations approximately averaged an additional $33,000 less with each passing year.  In order to maintain current, but historically lessened, levels of Synod and District mission support, CID has on average spent more than it has received by about $15,000 each year for the least 5 years, resulting in a further depletion of Reserve Funds.  To maintain present mission work, solid congregational support is critical and crucial.

The LCMSCentral Illinois District is publishing the annual gifts from each CID congregation to our District.  The following resolution of our LCMS Central Illinois District Board of Directors was passed May 28, 2013:

A Resolution To Publish Congregational Giving To District

WHEREAS, in the past the LCMS Central Illinois District of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod published the mission contributions to the district from each of its member congregations to show the total given and the per communicant contribution, and
WHEREAS, a number of the districts of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod continue to publish the mission contributions to the district from their member congregations, and
WHEREAS, St. Paul in 2 Corinthians chapter 8 used the example of "the wealth of generosity" demonstrated by the saints in Macedonia to encourage the saints in Corinth to excel in the same "act of grace" in order to "prove by the earnestness of others that [their] love also is also genuine", and
WHEREAS, the congregations of the LCMS Central Illinois District of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod could benefit from seeing each others mutual commitment to our shared mission and ministry and receive encouragement from each other to use their abundance to supply for the need of others, that there may be fairness.  [Nt. 2 Corinthians 8:13-14], and
WHEREAS, the LCMS Central Illinois District of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod has many communication resources available for publishing the mission contributions to the District from each of its member congregations, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Board of Directors of the LCMS Central Illinois District direct the administrative bookkeeper to prepare annual reports of the mission contributions to the District from the member congregations, and be it further
RESOLVED, that these reports will include the annual pledge and actual contribution of each congregation, the communicant membership of each congregation, and the per communicant giving of each congregation, and be it further
RESOLVED, that one report shall list, in descending order, the total contribution of each congregation to the District and a second report shall list, in descending order, the per communicant giving of each congregation to the District, and be it finally
RESOLVED, that, after review by the Board of Directors, these lists shall be published using one or more of the District's communication resources (There are congregations that give individually to the seminaries, various missions, and the like and these are not included in this listing).

How To Use This Report

Printing this list is not meant to give publicity to the larger donors.  Nor, is it to make those feel ashamed of their small gifts who have given according to their means.  Every gift from each congregation for the Lord's work should fill the heart of every loyal Christian with gratitude.

Please avoid uncharitable judging.  Small sums do not always mean small spirits or small love for Jesus' work at the District/Synod.  Please keep in mind that some congregations may support a selected non-district mission directly, and some congregations have the additional mission of a Lutheran School.

Let us examine our own congregation.  Let us be honest with ourselves, "Could we have given more to Him for His work who loved us and gave Himself for us?

St. Paul writes, "Your enthusiasm has stirred most of them to action," (2 Cor. 9:2).  May the contributions of others encourage our church!

Combining our congregations resources is an opportunity to do more than what one church could do alone.  This support of District/Synod work is also a responsibility agreed to when a church aligns itself with the LCMS Central Illinois District.
